Enjoy Surfing Santas Cocoa Beach Virtually This Year!

Last Updated on August 30, 2023 by Marybeth

Trying to make that headline sound upbeat, when for the first time since 2009 we will not be able to go to the beach and watch the surfing santas.

Understandably.

A tradition begun by one man; George Trosset, his wife, and his son, has burgeoned into an event that draws over 10,000 spectators. Good call to change it to a virtual event for 2020.

You CAN still participate! And support local charities – The Florida Surf Museum, and Grind for Life, which provides financial help for cancer patients and their families. Surfing Santas is offering three virtual events: Air Contest, Costume Contest, and your own Paddle-Out. By joining in the fun you’ll be eligible for prizes of cash, future hotel stays in Cocoa Beach, and more. Share your individual Surfing Santas activities with the hashtag #surfingsantas. And buy a shirt! We did. This year the blue is that blue ; you know the one I mean. That perfect sea blue that flatters everyone.

And rather than crank on about how much life has changed because of the pandemic (just yesterday a friend and I were bemoaning how many people are whining about it – just because they can’t go to gatherings and bars! Don’t get me started) I want to share with you some epic photos from Surfing Santas of years’ past. Fun times. That will return!

In the past we’ve mentioned that the costumes were more head-turning than the actual surfing, and each year that proved to be true! Here you go:

My costume every year! Wondering if my kids will cringe if I wear it around the house this year…
