Where to Swim, Play and Stay with Your Dog: Fort Pierce to Stuart, Florida

Once again we’re here to help solve your “But what about Bruiser?” and “We can’t leave Precious at home!” angst. Luckily for all of us dog lovers there are locally owned, family/dog friendly beaches, bars and bungalows (or mom-and-pops, and B & B’s.) Read on for all these lovely places that welcome your fur babies on Florida’s Atlantic coast, from Fort Pierce to Stuart.

The closest dog beach to Fort Pierce is Walton Rocks Beach in Jensen Beach, 13 miles south. Read about this dog beach under our Jensen Beach heading, below.

  • Right across the street from the ocean with a friendly, honky-tonk biker vibe. You’ve got to love a biker bar that also hosts church every Sunday morning from 9 – 10 a.m.
  • Happy Hour is Monday through Friday 3 – 6 p.m., live music almost every night: click their name to visit their site and calendar. Hours are Monday through Sunday 8 a.m. – 12 midnight.



Dockside Inn and Resort

  • Located directly on the Fort Pierce Inlet, just down the street from the beach.
  • A fishing/boating paradise, with 5 fishing piers, 34 boat slips, fishing charters available and an on-site bait shop.
  • 2 heated swimming pools, free breakfast, and On the Edge restaurant right next door.
  • Room rates as low as $79. Pets must be under $50 lbs., the pet fee is $50. Pets not allowed in waterfront rooms.





Walton Rocks Beach

  • 24 acres of beach property for you and your dogs – off leash! –  to enjoy.
  • Open sunrise to sunset, admission and parking are free.
  • Covered picnic tables, bathrooms with showers, and a natural reef that is exposed at low tide.



Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill

  • Located across the street from the river with water views, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 365 days of the year.
  • Happy Hour is every day from 1 -7 p.m.  Hours are Sunday through Thursday 8 a.m. – 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. – 1 a.m.



The Inn at Tilton Place

  • Across the street from the Indian River with water views, this 110 year old home has been beautifully restored.
  • Three course breakfast as well as complimentary organic wine in the evening.
  • Jensen Beach’s lively downtown, with shops and restaurants, is located within walking distance.





Stuart Beach

  • We were able to find out very little about Stuart Beach, but on two websites it is listed as pet friendly, on-leash. Any additional info you may have would be appreciated, as we have not visited this beach in person, with Gizmo (above), yet!

  • Overlooking the docks and marina on the St. Lucie River;  with 930 ft. of courtesy docking, you can arrive by boat!
  • Happy Hour is 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. daily, at the bar. Live music Thursday through Sunday. Hours are Sunday through Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Friday and Saturday 11:30 to 1 a.m.

Fort Pierce, on Florida’s Atlantic coast, is 15 miles south of Vero Beach.  Jensen Beach is 14 miles south of Fort Pierce, and Stuart is 6 miles south of Jensen Beach.
