Because “bar” doesn’t always have to mean alcohol, but having the option of a delicious coffee drink or a celebratory glass of wine or beer just opens up our world.
Some of us are cutting back on alcohol, while others of us have quit it entirely: I am so proud of them. Obviously that’s not me, but at my age and stage in life I’m certainly extra aware of all the lifestyle practices that contribute to longevity, and I’ve been incorporating many of them for years. Right now though, summer is here, vacation vibes abound (even at home: backyard time with my sweet husband often finds us floating around our little pool with grown-up drinks) and we’ve got coffee bars that also serve alcohol on our let’s-visit radar.
Sometimes slow to wake up to new trends (not enough coffee, perhaps?) we’re now seeing this new breed of coffee shops all over the place. Articles have been written by the media giants, describing “terroir-driven coffees”- I had to look that one up – which also, and how cool is this, applies to grapes grown for wine. Most of the coffee bars on our list also serve beer, and some offer cocktails as well. Channeling chill vibes of a sit-awhile coffee shop, these coffee + wine (and beer) bars on our list should be on your list.
While the number of popular breakfast cafes around Florida that also serve alcohol is many, we’ve rounded up actual coffee bars where the focus is coffee; these places often roast their own beans. Adding in wine and beer, along with great food, all have good ratings on various review-centric websites. By region, all close to Florida’s coasts, beginning in northeast Florida, heading south and then over to the Gulf coast, and up into the panhandle:
Fernandina Beach
“A different form of Mocoma Brew,” Mocoma Coffee is housed under the same roof as Mocoma Beer Company. Makes sense that a crew of folks whose desire is to bring you distinctive beers would be awesome at also offering up exceptional coffee. Boasting the fastest free wi-fi on the island, Mocoma Coffee invites the co-working community, and also just anyone who’d like an excellent cup of coffee or a refreshing batch beer pilsner, IPA, lager, porter, and more. Espresso, espresso + milk, French press coffees, and tea are on the menu. Coffee beans are provided by Florida based Panther Coffee.
Neptune Beach / Jacksonville Beach
Possibly our favorite concept on this list! How can anyone resist (unless, oh wait, you don’t like dogs? Who are you, if so?) Lawn games and large screen TVs for the humans, separate fenced small and large dog areas watched over by Brewhound Ruffarees, all located on the East Coast Greenway Recreation Trail. Bold Bean Specialty Coffee (founded in Jacksonville), local craft beer and wine on tap. Something for everyone! Except those non dog-lovers, who are invited to just stay home.
When a name runs all together in an earnest and pleasing way, coffee shop wine bar, we are all in. We haven’t made our way there yet, but the reviews on Yelp are up-to-date and great. Many give the tip that parking is in the back, and don’t be deterred by the tow-away signs; parking is for Breezy customers, not all-day beach goers. “Food is delicious and fresh,” and Breezy Coffee Shop Wine Bar offers a pet-friendly outdoor space.
St. Augustine
Located in the former Reliable Auto Parts (love a good backstory, and repurposing of old buildings) DOS Coffee & Wine’s main location – 300 San Marco Ave. – is not far from historic downtown St. Augustine. When we visited we stayed a couple of blocks away from DOS, and rode our bikes downtown. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and quiet enough to get some work done or just chill with your coffee and/or wine. Their large covered outdoor space is pet-friendly. Bagels, yogurt, overnight oats and baked goods along with sandwiches and salads are offered.
For us their & More meant their amazing homemade red sangria but I’m guessing they also mean their European and Latin American inspired food menu. Appetizers, sandwiches, soups, salads, and homemade desserts are the draw here along with fresh brewed coffees, cappuccinos, cafe Cubano, and a good selection of beers and European and South American wines. Located in St. Augustine Beach in the Winn Dixie Plaza (plenty of parking!)
Locally roasted coffee beans from Martin Coffee Company provide old world European style Espresso, Cordatito, Con Panna, Cappucino and more. Seasonal mimosas, craft beer, and frozen margaritas are also on offer here in the heart of historic downtown St. Augustine. Add rum, vodka, Irish cream, amaretto to any drink. Light bites of pastries, bagels, daily sandwiches and soups round out your reason to sit and stay awhile.
Ormond Beach
A place for coffee, wine, and conversation was the two partners’ vision for Beach + Vine. Many of their wines are organic and bio-dynamic, and their coffees, teas, and small bites are sourced locally. Beach + Vine isn’t just about serving coffee, wine, draft beer, and snacks, they also host events like wine tastings, yoga class every second Sunday of the month, and have live music most Saturdays. Check their event page for schedules.
Cocoa Beach
Founded in Winter Park, FL by two childhood friends in 2016, Foxtail has expanded to 50 stores in Florida and two in Georgia, with more planned for the near future. Dedicated to responsibly sourcing premium coffees from around the world, each location has a rustic / modern feel and comfortable seating areas that give you the “Foxtail Experience,” with craft-produced drinks that feel celebratory. Not all Foxtail Coffee locations serve alcohol, but most do serve locally made ice cream! Here in Cocoa Beach you’ll find local beers on tap, wine, and Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Vero Beach
We might say that Grind + Grape is way more about the grape – and beyond, with their full bar, handcrafted cocktails, long long list of red and white wines and draft and craft beers – than the grind, but Grind + Grape’s coffee offerings are many as well. Just the list of flavors made my head spin (in a good way!) You can order tea or hot chocolate as well. The food menu goes beyond what you might expect from a “bar,” coffee or otherwise. Breakfast options are served all day (try Hangover Flatbread or Lazy Sunday Egg Dish), brunch on Saturday and Sunday, and flatbreads and nibbles (wings, nachos, and more.) Dog friendly, and live music every night.
Stuart
Coffee, tea, beer and wine along with a locally sourced food menu! We said yes, please, while visiting Stuart. At first – truth to tell – because of their adorable vintage cottage home with that blue door. Try the iced mocha latte with homemade whipped cream – YUM. We only had coffee during our visit but the food looks amazing as well. A recent photo of their Blue Dream has us plotting to go back soon: iced chai latte with oat milk, vanilla, and lavender. Coffee bar blue door also has live music, a lovely spacious outdoor patio, and events like benefits for non-profits. Check their Instagram for updates.
Located in Sunset Bay Marina & Anchorage – what better view? The St. Lucie River, all those boats coming and going, that bridge… Sit awhile and gaze, with your coffee, or later with your beer or wine. Serving locally sourced and organic coffee, teas, smoothies, baked goods, toast, and other menu items – check out their Instagram for particulars (including evening menus such as charcuterie) as well as the live music schedule.
And Vinyl! Not sure that’s in its official name (I think I saw it somewhere though) but how cool! The backstory is fun, too: “It all started with a small one pound home coffee roaster on our front porch listening to a vinyl record through the open window of our house. The sounds and smells were as intoxicating as the Sierra Nevada Torpedo we were drinking.” Eventually more coffee was roasted than they could consume themselves… fast forward to the brick and mortar 1950s mid century building they renovated to its former beauty. You’ll find single origin roasts, made in small batches, espresso-based drinks, rotating beers on tap and several wines. Peruse the 100s of used and new records, and visit their Instagram for events like open mic nights, cookouts, maker’s markets, and pop-ups.
Boynton Beach
“Day and night cafe” located just steps to the Intracoastal and the E. Woolbright Bridge over to the small towns of Ocean Ridge and Briny Breezes (love that name!) Check out their Instagram for news and updates, including their “secret dinner menu.” Poke bowls, sushi tacos, street tacos, Korean BBQ short ribs, burgers, sandwiches and signature cocktails are some menu items.
Boca Raton
We pronounced this wrong. (Did you? I’m guessing yes.) It’s not “vee-eye” or “vie” but “six”! I love their explanation: “Rather than a name, a number is unique and different, just like us! A name you can never forget, a marketing gimmick and conversation starter… Slightly annoying, but slightly humorous, that’s us!” With the chef / owner’s lifelong professional kitchen career, VI Coffee Bar offers ever-changing seasonal menus of fresh gourmet food. Drinks besides coffee include tea, hot chocolate, house-made lemonade, vegan smoothie, and multiple specialty drinks like matcha, lattes, and cold brews. The food menu boasts handhelds (breakfast tacos, hot honey breakfast sandwich and more), toasts, wraps, bowls, salads, and bagels. Beer + wine! Something for everyone – your early morning pick-me-up and your mid-afternoon wind (wine?) down. Follow along on Instagram for events and Tiny Table Concert dates.
Pembroke Pines
With a tagline of “freshness and friendship,” and also the fun video on their website (coming from someone – me – for whom the idea of doing videos produces anxiety!) starting with an aerial view of their place, this place encourages us to just hang and enjoy. Then we see the varied and outstanding food menu serving breakfast, lunch and dinner: not just your average coffee stop! To name a few categories – salad skillets, pizza, pocket wraps, empanadas, not small eats, and sweets. Eight choices of 100% natural juices. Do you know where Pembroke Pines even is? Complete transparency, I didn’t! Just about 40 minutes inland from Hollywood Beach, Roasting Buddies is merely minutes from the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife area, fish camps, airboat tours and all the Everglades has to offer.
Miami
Voted into the Top Ten “Best Happy Hour” in Kendall by EaterMiami, Hybrid House isn’t just a coffee shop and craft beer tap house. Weekly events happen here: music parties with locally famous DJs, comedians, Beers & Bingo Wednesdays, and more. Small bites all day, with food pop-ups all week. Check their Instagram for the current schedule of events and food offerings.
Naples
Serving the finest European coffee from Julius Meinl – one of the oldest coffee roasters in the world, founded in 1862! – Divine Naples Coffee & Wine invites you to spend time in their cozy cafe or outdoor patio. Breakfast or lunch menus include breakfast plates, sandwiches and salads. Red, white, sparkling wine, and wine cocktails are available in the evening along with charcuterie boards. Make sure you look through their drink menu online (it’s really long: so many coffee drinks to choose from! Including age 21 + over coffee drinks – hot and cold – juices, nectars, beer, wine, sangria) also the extensive food menu. Extra cool is their separate website for beach delivery! Genius idea! 35 beach access locations and 15 downtown hotels are in the delivery area, with 250 items available. BeachSOS.com (great name!) The red delivery truck resembles a fire truck (“We save lives every day”) with a giant coffee cup on the top (I’m still laughing, in a good way!)
Bonita Springs
Downtown Coffee + Wine Company
“Locally owned and operated upon the idea that a good day can be sustained by two things: coffee and wine.” High five from us! Located in the newly renovated historic district of Bonita Springs, Downtown Coffee has a contemporary ambiance, intimate indoor space and lovely outdoor seating areas. Locally roasted Grumpy Goat Coffee Company single origin, premium coffee beans make their specialty coffee and espresso drinks, and teas, tonics and elixirs are also on the menu. Their rotating wine list includes Notable Whites, Notable Reds, Bubbly & Sweet wines, and Florida Orange Juice Mimosas. With their Anytime Fare from their scratch kitchen – served open to close – you’ll find an Egg Sammich, Boursin Brioche Toast, Baked Brie and an Artisanal Cheese Plate, to name a few. Visit their Instagram for event dates like Wine Tastings, Champagne & Oyster Night, and local live music.
St. Petersburg
Inspired by European and American cafes from the ’50s and ’60s where artists, writers, actors and other creatives gathered over drinks, Intermezzo provides a warm and cordial space for friends to enjoy coffee, a bottle of wine, or cocktails. Specialty coffees, teas, day cocktails, coffee cocktails, beer and vino are on offer. Every day beginning at 8 am! Intermezzo hosts a monthly Sonic DJ Experience, Listening Notes, jazz nights, Oyster Pop-up featuring The Lazy Oyster oysters, and other events, go to their Instagram for details. Intermezzo holds a monthly outdoor street market, Mezzo Market, with 100+ small business vendors selling art, clothing, vintage goods, plants, food, drinks and more along with live music, from October-April.
With four locations – three in St. Petersburg and one in Tampa – The Blend Coffee & Cocktails is serving up a whole lot of fun drinks! Many coffee drinks to choose from, naturally, along with Matcha, Chai, Italian sodas, and a long list of specialty coffee and energy drinks (I am especially intrigued by the Peach Sunrise Bullseye.) Choose from breakfast sandwiches, burritos, bagels, pastries, cookies, muffins, jar cakes, and more. Cocktails, mocktails, beer, wine, seltzers, flights, bubbly, mimosas; something for everyone. Hours vary with each location, check their website for each.
Crystal River
Stepping away from convention: listing wine before coffee. Why not? That may be the order of some peoples’ day! With KC Wine & Koffee Bar’s extensive food menu you’re not going to immediately think “coffee bar that serves wine,” it’s more of a full-scale restaurant. Winner of seven Restaurant Guru awards, and located in Crystal River’s charming historic downtown, this place is a must-visit while in the area. You’ll find seafood, burgers, gyros, Filipino spring rolls, wings, charcuterie boards, many salad options, tacos, a full dinner menu and a full bar. Their lovely outdoor patio is pet friendly, and boasts a fire pit. Live entertainment on weekends; visit their Facebook for more info.
Tallahassee
La Florida’s name was inspired by history: Ponce de Leon and his crew first called our state La Pasqua Florida when they discovered it during the Easter season (“Pasqua” is Easter.) Forward to today, with La Florida Coffee & Wine’s mission to provide downtown Tallahassee a home away from home, where people can find the necessary staples needed to get through the day: coffee, wine, and bread. The warm hospitality at La Florida encourages ties to be loosened, and visitors to view the lovely downtown as more than a work destination. Fresh baked goods – no preservatives or artificial ingredients – tacos on Tuesdays, charcuterie boards, sandwiches, and more are on the menu. Wine Down Wednesdays features live music; check their Instagram for details.
“All Day Coffee & Wine” – what a friendly, no-judgement tagline! This stylish environment provides a cafe-feel during the day, with a social lounge environment in the evenings. From specialty lattes to “Keeping it Simple” coffee drinks (espresso, cappuccino, latte), cocktails, teas, smoothies, along with specialty cocktails, wine by the glass or bottle, wine on tap, various spritz drinks, beers and seltzers, there is something for every taste. The food menu is large and varied with bagel melts, breakfast sandwiches, flatbreads, sandwiches, salads, charcuterie boards, dips & bites, and desserts. Lunch specials daily during the week – check their website – with happy hour Mon-Sat. Wine Bingo (Wednesday), Ladies’ Nights (Thursday), and live music (Friday.) Persian Night & Belly Dancing some Saturdays, check their Instagram for more information.
Santa Rosa Beach
Located in 30A’s newest, high-end retail and luxury residential spaces village center, The District, Stock & Brew Cafe fits right in with its modern aesthetic and upscale finishes. Don’t let “modern” make you think Stock & Brew isn’t relaxing – it is. Many spots to sink right in and stay the day are thoughtfully placed around the light-filled space. Serving and selling Alabama local Non-Fiction Coffee, and also offering teas, light bites, fresh baked goods, wraps, dips, kombucha, beer, wine, and more. While you’re there take a tour of the 75,000 sq ft Stock and Trade Design Co.
“The FUNkiest lil coffee shop on 30A!” this chill and friendly coffee shop is located just across the street from Santa Rosa Beach’s largest beach access point. Using only the highest quality coffee beans from local organic coffee roasters Amavida, Sunrise Coffee brings you delicious hot coffees, hot tea, chai lattes, smoothies, cocktails, wine and beer. Charlie’s Famous Donuts are some of the sweet treats, and you’ll also find breakfast sandwiches, bagels, biscuits, wraps, sandwiches, quesadillas, all cooked to order.
Miramar
The young family who moved from DC to escape the fast pace and find a slower pace and a backyard to watch their children play strive to serve simple, yet refined, food. “Nothing fancy or complicated, just good, quality ingredients put together with love to create something memorable” served in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Their menu reads like a foodie’s dream: nothing over-the-top but nothing ho-hum. Pan Fried Banana Bread, Sourdough French Toast, Cured Salmon Bowl, Grass Fed Burger with Bacon Jam on Brioche, are just some of the items that intrigue us. (Totally going for the Fried PB&J Sandwich!!!) Many coffee drinks to choose from, chai latte, matcha latte, wine (you can also purchase a bottle from their Wine Wall), beer on tap, and Slammable Classics (mimosa, Bloody Mary), Lowdown Cocktails, and a Vermouth Bar round out the drink menu.
