Drawing more than 4,000 people, Santas from all over the world surfed and skydove for the 6th Annual Surfing Santas event in Cocoa Beach, Florida, the Small Wave Capital of the World.
(Question from my 2018 self to my 2014 self: why did you slide the color balance bar way over to yellow??)
“All I can say is it’s beyond my wildest dreams,” the creator, George Trosset, started the event just for fun with a few family members some years ago.
Watching the surfing Santas (over 300) and the 18 skydiving Santas on Christmas eve was a blast. But the best part of this event, besides raising over $10,000 for Grind for Life – a cancer charity – and for the Florida Surf Museum, was how much laughable crazy fun everyone was having. Creative, whacky, weird and festive holiday garb was everywhere you looked.
Sand instead of snow for the holidays…. Admittedly, some of us who used to live up north do feel nostalgic for snow. But those longings tend to disappear when you can throw on a two-piece or board shorts, some sunscreen and a Santa hat before settling in with an eggnog margarita at the end of the day.
Young and old, santas, elves, and even The Grinch showed up.
Hello, new swimsuit, old tanlines
Homemade elf boots!

Check out #surfingsantas on Twitter for more info and pics, and join us next year on Christmas eve. I can’t promise it will be to 80 degrees, but we’ll make those eggnog margaritas anyway!
